Brose is one of the five biggest family-owned automotive suppliers with 32,000 employees in 68 locations in 24 countries. The mechatronics specialist develops and manufactures systems for vehicle doors, liftgates and seats. Brose’s core competencies also include ECUs, electronic control units such as sensors. One in three cars worldwide is equipped with at least one of their products.

“We need to send data about our ECUs to the car manufacturers, so they have full transparency over the supply chain. One of them required us to send the data via Catena-X.”, Sandro Schöpplein, Software Developer from Brose, explains.

Catena-X is a data space from the automotive sector that provides secure and standardized data sharing compliant with regulatory requirements. Catena-X was established in response to several critical developments and challenges in the automotive industry, including the complexity of value chains for companies. It provides a secure and standardized data space to enable compliance with regulatory requirements as well as improve supply chain transparency and efficiency in the automotive industry. Participants across the value chain can benefit equally from the system, which facilitates data sharing in a transparent and compliant manner. The project also built upon existing frameworks such as GAIA-X, the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), and the Eclipse Dataspace Connector (EDC).

As the topic is complex and the time frame was tight, Brose looked for a trusted partner to support their journey to the world of data spaces and decided to trust the knowhow of sovity.

The EDC Connector from sovity is Catena-X certified, which means customers who use it do not have to work toward a certification themselves.
Additionally, the experts from sovity are certified Catena-X consultants, so they were able to support every step of the way.

“We had a kick-off meeting in our headquarter in Bamberg in the beginning of September, and by now we have connected the first two plants in ongoing series production. There was a tight time frame, so we are very happy about the fast project implementation sovity made possible. The game changer was that we could use much of our existing IT systems and simply integrate sovity’s solution into our own logging system.”, Sandro says.
